Scriptorium means “place of writing.” It was a room set apart in monasteries in medieval times, where monks wrote and copied by hand, manuscripts, including the Bible. A scriptorium was a place centered on the word.
Scriptorium Saturday is an event, a series, an individual and communal focus on creative utterance, placing emphasis on and elevating the stature of language, particularly poetry, as a real force in creativity, community, healing, restoration, identity, education, freedom.
Much like the scriptorium from medieval times, Scriptorium Saturday is that distinguished place of creative utterance whether spoken or written – that distinguished place of the word.
Scriptorium Saturday presented its debut poetry show during National Poetry Month on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the Graphic Center.
Simone Youngblood is the Founder & Producer of Scriptorium Saturday. She is a homegrown Sacramento native. She began her early schooling at St. Anne Elementary in Meadowview, and, many years later in 2009, consummated her schooling at Sacramento State with her Master of Arts in English.
Scriptorium Saturday is a labor of love focusing on using poetry to inform, inspire & innovate our community, its youth & the individual life.
We look forward to you support as we elevate the stature of poetry and the creative voice in our Capital City.
